At Valetudo Stables we mainly use wood fiber as bedding, which is why our promo video of the BeddingMaster is made with wood fiber. However, the BeddingMaster has been developed to be used with various types of stable litter with a maximum material size of 15mm in diameter.

Flax

One of the most commonly used types of bedding for horse stables is flax and the BeddingMaster has also been tested well with this. We would also like to show you how flax works, which is why we have filled the box of our Miss Bonfire VS with this stable litter in recent days. For 5 days we made real-time recordings of cleaning and keeping her box clean. No frills, just the way things really work here.

Day 1: a good start is half the battle

What do we pay attention to when using flax (and other stable bedding) as bedding for the horse box? The first tip: a good foundation is extremely important. Use a thick layer of litter; we use half a bale per square meter of stable surface. With this good base layer, only one bale per week is needed to keep the stable clean. The BeddingMaster sieves the manure from the clean litter and is therefore very economical, provided there is a good basis. With a thick base layer of stable bedding, the urine forms a lump that cannot be broken. This prevents wet litter from mixing with dry litter.

Day 2: a clean stable, simple and quick

With the BeddingMaster you can clean the stable quickly and easily. Scoop just under the manure balls and throw it on the BeddingMaster. The second tip: don't shovel the ground, because then you also scoop up the wet spots. These can be left in place for the first few days as flax absorbs urine well. In addition, the wet spot is not damaged by the good base layer of flax. The third tip, distribute the litter well throughout the stable. This day, Missy's box was clean again within 1 minute and 20 seconds (see video day 2).

Day 3 & 4: a clean stable, simple and quickly becomes routine work

On these days the routine of day 2 is repeated. Some days it is a bit more work compared to others. By walking in the stable, the litter is moved to the box edges. Another tip: after removing the manure balls, it is important to pull the stable litter from the edges back in, so that a thick layer of flax remains in the middle of the box, especially if your horse has his or her regular urination spot there. has. How we do this can be seen in the video playlist, video day 4.

Day 5: Remove wet spots

On day 5 we first remove the manure balls and then the wet spots. If you don't know where the wet spots are, move some flax away here and there. Horses generally muck and urinate in the same place in the stall, we know Missy like the back of our hands and so we don't have to look. We immediately throw the wet spots in the wheelbarrow. Of course we don't want the wet litter back in the stable! The timer again runs in real time in the video and today we spent 4 minutes and 10 seconds mucking out and removing the wet spots.

A clean box takes an average of less than 2.5 minutes per day. Watch the Miss Bonfire VS box for 5 days

For 5 days we made real-time recordings of cleaning and keeping her box clean. No frills, just the way things really work here. The YouTube playlist with all 5 recordings is in this blog, so that anyone who missed it can still watch it.

BeddingMaster saves time and costs

Type of stable bedding: flax & the BeddingMaster

With the BeddingMaster you can quickly and easily clean the stable. The machine sieves the horse manure from the litter and does the hard work for you. This saves you time and costs on litter. We keep the boxes very clean quickly through the cleaning routine with the BeddingMaster. This saves us a lot of time, which we spend with love with our horses. On average, we spend less than 2.5 minutes per box per day on mucking out and keeping it clean. In addition, we save half a bale of bedding per horse per week.
