HayTimer

​​The HayTimer was developed to bring structure to roughage feeding and to prevent long periods without feed, even when you are not present. The system works with preset feeding times and fixed portions, making it a clear improvement over traditional feeding.

Unique Design

Similar automatic feeders use one-piece hatches. When such a hatch opens, it hangs down completely. To prevent it from protruding beneath the feeder and posing a risk to your horse, a relatively large amount of empty space is required beneath the bottom hatch.

The HayTimer solves this with a unique design featuring two-part hatches that open forward and backward. Because each hatch section is shorter, much less empty space is needed beneath the bottom compartment. As a result, more space is available for forage within the same total volume.

That means: more hay in the same space, without having to pack it down tightly. Looser hay falls more reliably as soon as a hatch opens and reduces the chance that a portion will get stuck.

Models

The HayTimer Pro and the HayTimer DIY Kit use exactly the same feeding mechanism and can dispense the same amount of roughage in the same way. Therefore, there is no difference in operation for your horse.

 

The main difference lies in the construction. The HayTimer Pro is constructed entirely of steel, welded, features a durable powder coating, and is delivered ready-to-use. This makes it extra robust and ready for immediate use. The kit is made of aluminum and is delivered in parts so that you can assemble it yourself. Because the parts are not cosmetically finished, minor production marks may be visible, such as oil stains, suction cup marks, or small scratches. These do not affect the operation, safety, or lifespan of the system.

 

Due to the lighter construction of the kit, self-assembly, and compact packaging, both the production and transport costs of the HayTimer Kit are lower. The HayTimer Pro requires more material, welding, finishing, and assembly, and is transported by pallet due to its size. With both versions, you can count on the same reliable feeding system.

Choose the HayTimer model that’s right for you

Are you looking for maximum convenience, extremely robust construction, and a solution that requires no further action on your part? Then the HayTimer Pro is the right choice. The Pro is made entirely of steel, fully welded, durably powder-coated, and comes fully assembled. All you have to do is hang it up, set the feeding times, and it’s ready to use.

With the HayTimer Kit, things are different. The feeding mechanism is exactly the same as the Pro’s, but the aluminum frame is not intended to be used as a rubbing post. When installing it, you must therefore ensure that your horse cannot reach the HayTimer. In a paddock, for example, you can do this by placing a spacious feed trough beneath the HayTimer, possibly with a slanted board over which the hay slides forward into the trough. ​If the HayTimer is hung inside the stable itself, the Pro is usually the simplest choice. If you still want to use the DIY Kit, you can, for example, place it on the outside of the stable, with the doors facing the hallway, and let the hay slide into the stable via a slanted board. The choice therefore comes down mainly to convenience and budget. If you want a ready-to-use, very sturdy solution that you can hang up and then basically forget about, choose the HayTimer Pro. If you’re looking for a more affordable option, don’t mind assembling it yourself, and can position it in a way that prevents your horse from rubbing against it, the HayTimer Kit offers exactly the same feeding functionality at a lower price.
